  President Tony's Monthly Report

Hi Everyone,

Issue No 8 - "Tony's Bugle Call"

Well! its almost over, my year as your President. I hope that I have lived up to our clubs high standards?

I must say that I have enjoyed the year very much and thanks to all your support, I feel it has been a good year for the Club.

I started at the beginning and wanted a year of fun and fellowship, well you have certainly given me that. I also said that I would like my year to be a low key fund-raising year, this was achieved due to the hard work of the 2004/2005 committees giving the club a good and healthy charity fund.

There have been some great highs and some sad lows, however the club members have faced up to them with their usual optimism.

So now let me up date you all on the last months highlights.

Fund-raising Italian Night (Shaddupyaface)

I must say this was a super night, the entertainment was of a very high standard and I feels this warrants a special mention. In particular our two Italian compères David Beesley and Tony Leach who were the tops. All our guest were very impressed with all that we did and were very taken by our friendliness. My thanks to David, Tony and their team for making it a great Night. Oh! and we raised about £600 for the charity fund, Well Done!

Paul Harris Fellowship Award

I was very please to present our two longest serving members with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Graham Taylor who joined the Club in 1971 and Alan Woodhead in 1972. Both have given long and loyal service to the Club and Rotary for over 30 years and the award is well deserved. Congratulations to you both and thank you for your commitment.

High Points

The Club enjoyed a few high point over the year we had the Charter Night which was a Military style mixed with Rotary Tradition and was enjoyed by all those who attended.

The Club inducted our very first Lady Member Alison O'Neal and Police Sergeant Martin Coyne a serving officer in Radcliffe.

Then there was the Fellowship weekend at St Annes which was a great event, the musical night at St Mary's and the Club dinner night at the Fusiliers Officers mess.

All this was top off with the Twinning with the Rotary Club of Largely Central Canada.

None of these event could have been successful without all your support, so thank you again.

Low Points

There are always sadly, low points and we have had our share this year. There was the very sad loss of Ian Siddall who bravely fought his illness to the very end and will be very much missed.

We lost Ian Holt from membership due his expanding work load (though he still supports our events) let hope he can rejoin again soon. Mike Platt will also leave the club, though not Rotary, as he is joining Bolton Daybreak Club were his is Wife Gillian is also member, and we wish them well.

Final Farewell

Well that's about it from me (thank god for that you may say) I have honestly enjoyed being your President. I thank all those who help me through the year with their constructive advise. I thanks all our of Committee chairman and their teams for the great support they have given me and to all the members who have stood by me over the year. I wish Brian Mosley a happy and successful year, I know he will do a great job with the same support.

Thank you all again, May I now stand easy’? President Tony

Hello Everyone,

Well! That’s another year over with, lets hope this one will be better then the last or at least as good as.

The Club have started the New Year with 2 new members with the sad resignation of one of our very hard working members Ian Holt due to the ever creasing pressures of his work. The good news is that he and Christine will still be supporting the Club in our Rotary activities.

We are please to hear that Brian Mosley was none the worse for his traffic accident in Poland and thankfully escaped any nasty injuries.

We send Ian Siddall our best wishes as we know he as not had the best of health over the last 12 months. But Ian is always the optimist and always seems to be up beat about things.

We have a very busy few months ahead of us starting with the Clubs fellowship weekend at St Annes, Mike and Gerry have everything in hand for a good couple of days.

In March there are Bury Metro Clubs Charter Nights – Bury – Ramsbottom – and Tottington & Bury West.(see Club Meetings diary for dates)
Tom Johnson will also be organising one of his Club Musical evenings with our Ladies and Friends, in early April date (poss. 10th) and times later.
There will also be a Whisky Tasting evening at Peter Silletts house on 21st April, this will be a Fun and Fundraising night. Peter has asked that if any member can donate a bottle of Malt Whisky it would be most appreciated.
There are other events organised for May and June but I will leave those for further Bugle Calls.
And not forgetting my President’s Evening which will be held on Saturday 11th March at the Breightmet Golf Club, you are assured of a superb evening of good food, entertainment, and fellowship.

Well, after my first 6 months as President, I think I am getting the hang of it and look forward to the other half of it. Having just retired from full-time employment and become a 2 days a week consultant in historical research, hopefully I will have a little more time for Rotary business.

Well that all for now, so until next time, "Stand Easy".

President Tony.

Good grief, is it Christmas time already?? I have only just got over the last one and the summer holidays seem never to have happened at all. So it looks like the house will have to be re-mortgaged to buy Christmas gifts for our 5 children and 16 grand children – two more than last year.

Well, it’s been a good year for the club, Mike and Kay (Edwards) led us through a very successful year and thanks to the Fund Raising committee it allowed to hit  the ground ‘running’ as far as helping the many charities. Thanks also to our loyal club Secretary Tony Leach who has helped and guided me through the first few months of  my Presidency.

The ‘Over 70’s’ Christmas Lunch.

Held at Radcliffe Civic Suite on Thursday 1st December, was a great success and my thanks go to  Tony Leach and Jim Linihan and the Community Service Committee for all their hard work. Thanks  also to all those who turned up and helped on the day with the hosting etc..

The entertainment was first class, Tony did his usual sing-a-long, his lovely and talented grand daughter, Sarah, playing flute and singing a modern version of “Over the Rainbow”. Then we had Mark Walsh doing an excellent ‘George Formby’ along with Brian White  (ex Rotarian) supporting him, and not forgetting that super vocalist Terry Desmond, overall it was a super day and a great credit to our Club. The Mayor and Mayors were in attendance and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Membership

It’s been great, so far in our recruitment of new members with the induction of our first lady member, Alison O’Neal, and with another new member to be inducted at our lunch-time meeting in December. Both have been introduced by Mike (Edwards) – well done.

The Christmas Sleigh

It started on Monday 5th December and will run until Thursday 22nd December. So far it is going very well, though on the first night there was some nervousness when we had a breakdown fifteen minutes from the end. I am pleased to report all is going well thanks to Tom (Johnston) and Peter (Cooke). Don’t forget the ‘End of Sleigh Party’ on the last night at David and Beryl’s. A big ‘THANK YOU’ to them.

Well that is all for this year, Mary and I wish you all and your families a very Merry Christmas and great New Year;  Lights Out and God Bless.                    President Tony.

Stand to! It’s time for an update of happenings and forth- coming events, though I am still shell shocked after my first three months as your President.

Can I first congratulate Ralucca (Siddall) on taking over as President of the Inner Wheel from Kay (Edwrads) (who had a great year). We wish her all the very best for the coming year and look forward to working and supporting her and the members in their projects and fundraising.
We are all pleased that Ian (Holt) has made a full recovery from his operation and spell in hospital, it’s great to see him back with us.
We were also very concerned to hear that Ian (Siddall) was admitted to hospital two weeks ago. However Ian being the man he is was soon out and back with his fund-raising and Rotary business! Well done, Ian.
Conference at the Isle of Man, 16/18 September, was very good this year with some excellent presentations, particularly impressive were the R/C of Horwich’s ‘Citizenship Scheme’ and the ‘Mercy Ship’ we must follow up these items.

I have to say that on Saturday night we did our ‘own thing’ with our usual ‘Radcliffe Crazy Gang’ approach, oh, yes! Ask Mike (Edwards) about the "Windy Titty?" Mine and Mary’s thank’s go to you all for your support, and in particular to Jim (Linihan) for the arrangements etc..(Across I. of M. Photo’s)

The "Musical Extravaganza" Fri 23rd September was a super night, with the combined bands, Fusiliers & Normandy Bands, Pipe Band of the Scots Guard Assoc. and Corp of Drums. Everyone could not help being moved by the final piece of the evening ‘Highland Cathedral’. Over 500 people thoroughly enjoyed a great night of music, and on top of that we have raised some money for Rotary and the Fusiliers causes.

In keeping with my ‘Fun & Fellowship’ year we have an "Edwardian Dinner" arranged at the Fusiliers Officers Mess on Monday 31st October (Edwardian Dress optional). It will consist of a 6 Course Dinner + wine, all for £16.50 per couple.

Charter Night is on Mon 7th November this year, and we have the band and Drums of the Fusiliers playing during Dinner and Lt Col David Waters as speaker, David was involved in mine clearing in Bosnia. It will be held at the Civic Suite, Radcliffe and will start a little later at 7.30pm for 8.00pm dinner.

Mike (Edwards) our H & F Chairman is organising a fellowship week-end at the Endsleigh Hotel, St Annes on Sea, on Fri 10th to Sun 12th February 2006, cost £90pp, including a ticket to the Theatre on Saturday evening. The list is already on the ‘rounds’ so get your name down now, a great weekend is assured.
Well folks that’s all for now, so until next time, no further parades today, ‘Stand Easy’ Cheers President Tony.
