President Tony

In my opening address to our Club members I mentioned in brief my ideas for the coming year. Which were a year of Rotary Family Fellowship and Fun, a move towards twinning, a big effort by all members to increase membership. Fund raising, due to a super effort by last years team can be more low-key this year. However, due to our charity commitments for the coming year there will still be a need to raise funds.

To this aim there are three fund raising events planned they are ASDA collection on 5th August, a Musical Extravaganza featuring 2 military bands a Corps of Drums and the Pipes and Drums of Scots Guards on 23rd September (more detail on that later). Finally the traditional Christmas sleigh collection will be held in December.  There will also be other fund raising events, but these will be held later in my presidential year.

The Clubs Charter night will be on 7th November at Radcliffe Civic Hall, we have the Fusiliers Band Drums playing during dinner and Colonel David Waters TD as speaker. David is a mine-clearing Officer who as served in Bosnia and Kosovo and is also a engineer working on the Euro Fighter a Wharton.

Our first Rotary Family Fun night will be a Club Edwardian Dinner Night at the Fusiliers Officers Mess it will be a non-profit making event at the cost of about £12 per head for a five course meal this is planned for 31st October.  We are also planning a Fellowship weekend around February 2006, due to the success of the last one during Tony Leach’s year.

Presidents night in March next year is still in the planning stages and details will be announced when dates and locations are confirmed.

I am sure I can count on all your support, I will do my best to live up to the high standards our Club have set during the last 72 years.

Yours in Fellowship

Tony Sprason
