The Inner Wheel Club of Radcliffe

On Wednesday 17th October, accompanied by President Raluca Sidall, immediate past president Kay Edwards presented a cheque for £500 to the Special Needs Department of Gorsefield primary school, Radcliffe This donation will enable the department to carry out a much needed upgrade to the specialised Computer equipment used by the children. A lap top computer and a scanner will be purchased with the money.

During Kay's Presidency, the Club also raised £500 for the charity Hope & Homes for Children, which provides expertise and cash funding to enable the citizens of war torn countries of the third world to build and run homes for children, orphaned as a result of the atrocities of war and civil strife.

Radcliffe is a young at heart and active club even though two of our twenty three members are in their nineties they both regularly attend our meetings.

We meet every third Wednesday of the month for a meal, chatter and of course our official business at the Garsdale Country Inn in Bury. (near the Burrs Country Park) Last month the District Chairman Tina Brown visited the club and gave us an interesting talk on how she came to be involved in the Inner Wheel movement.

We organise varied and interesting activities including money raising events throughout the year. Recently we held an inter-club 'Beetle Drive' with two local clubs which proved to be a most enjoyable evening. In March we are to have a talk on the subject of 'Victorian Letters & Diaries' by Mrs Beryl Shepherd followed by some friendly rivalry when we stage a 'Victorian Quiz'

Our principle fund raiser this year is to be a 'Flower Arranging Demonstration' by Club Member, Mrs. Gillian Platt, who is the Immediate Past National President of the 'National Association of Flower Arranging Societies' (NAFAS) Our aim is to raise £500 plus for the charity 'Hope and Homes' A children's charity which provides safe, managed, family houses for orphaned children in troubled areas of the world.

The year will finish with a 'Safari Lunch'. Last years lunch was a very successful and enjoyable event the weather was good and we were able to eat outside whilst we downed a glass of wine or two. Its a lovely way to raise money for local charities and we have our fingers crossed for good weather again this year.

Inner Wheel is often perceived to be the 'blue rinse' brigade with ladies in twin sets and pearls! A misconception of course!

Do come along to one of our events - with the Radcliffe Club - you can be sure of an enjoyable experience.

President Kay Edwards
