Achievement above and Beyond the Boundaries of Radcliffe
The Ernest Kay Memorial Award for Achievement ‑ Is presented each year by The Rotary Club of Radcliffe to a member of the Radcliffe community who has accomplished an outstanding success. There can be no more worthy winner than Melenie Price who has worked assiduously to help people and children all over the world. The most remarkable thing about this is that we in Radcliffe Rotary only got to hear about her work through the Radcliffe Times when they ran a story about Melenie and her charity 'The Sunflower Trust' in a recent issue.
To quote directly from 'The Sunflower Trust' web site: “The Sunflower Trust supports over several hundred, poor children, in villages, from Hungary, borders of Romania, India and the Philippines. We have been supporting these children since 1990, and have seen wonderful progress in the development of their villages and lives.
Our aim is to support the children with the basic needs, that they so deserve. These children live in very poor conditions, and there are a lot disabilities amongst them. They have no local shops or Doctors on their door steps. Water is still drawn from wells and standpipes in the middle of the village. We aim to supply, clean water, good healthy meals and decent accommodation, education, medical supplies, and FRIENDSHIP and LOVE, LOVE, and more LOVE."
Last Monday Melenie was a guest of the club and spoke to members and their wives about her work over the past 17 years. She was not to know that President Tony Sprason had the prize of the Ernest Kay Award to present to her at the end of her talk. Melenie accepted the prize and in doing so mentioned all of the Sunflower Trust team who give her sterling support in the trusts charity work.
