Hello Everyone,
So we're up and running again after the New Year holiday. We were all immediately shocked by the Tsunami disaster in Asia. The world response has been magnificent - as has the Rotary response. For our part we have paid for two shelter boxes and 1 emergency box and sent £1000 cash. split between two direct contact Rotary appeals. I believe the Club are comfortable with this and we will monitor developments. For a wider view of what Rotary is doing click here.
Things to watch out for -
The speaker on Monday January 29th will cover the subject of mentors in High School Education. Some of us are already involved, Tony Leach, GerryFaulkner, Peter Cooke, and myself. Who knows, it may even be for you? This is a good way to help in the Community and makes a change from fundraising.
Friday February 25th is the 6 BURY ROTARY CLUBS Centenary Dinner at the Radcliffe Civic Suite, and our very own Tony Leach is responsible for it's organisation. So come on Guys, lets give this one our full support.
Saturday March 5th is Presidents evening at the Watermillock Hotel, Bolton. Kay and I will be delighted to see you all there, hopefully Dinner and "relaxed" dancing win be the format, with Andy Stone (Guy Porteous style keyboards) providing the music.
Friday 29th April sees our next, AND ONLY, fundraiser until the final event of this Rotary year at the end of June. It's a Grand Charity Dinner at the Homcfiffe Mansions. Edenfield. The production team on this one will be David Beesley & John Gorton (the old team) so expect a good one. Speakers win be Rod Taylor - TV producer, and a stand-up comedienne - Pauline Daniels - both come highly recommended. Corporate tables are already selling, but WE NEED YOU AS WELL This is the main opportunity to replenish charity funds for this year. I am reliably advised to expect a visit from a renown personality from the world of opera. If it's who I think it is, this alone will be worth the ticket money!
Don't forget the District 1280 Centenary Concert at the Bridgewaler Hall on Monday 14* March. I'm sure that this will be another delightful evening out, with much Rotary fellowship thrown in as well.
All these events are open to wives, partners, and friends, so make sure you bring them along. Blimey - now we're really buzzing - and that's the way we like it at Radcliffe.
One final and sobering thought however- Membership recruitment is flagging again! Peter Royle has followed up all the hopeful leads without success. We must not give up on membership. Is there anyone that you could bring to one of these forthcoming events who just might end up being inspired to join the fun of Rotary? Also don't sit on any ideas that you may have on this subject - lets be knowing about them.
President Mike.

Dear Reader,
I can hardly believe it?? By the time you read this. I will have completed almost 6 months as your Club President! — Half way their already! District Conference - done - one of the best. even though we couldn't do our "own thing" Charter Night - done - again one of the best, I think, until a certain Mr Beswick stood up!! Remembrance Sunday -1 was privileged to lay the Rotary Wreath. Daffodil planting - done & dusted, great turnout - thanks to everyone, and thanks to David Yewdall and Stephen Smith Garden Centre.
We've entertained the President of RIBI Gordon McInally I've presented a long service award to Don and a Paul Harris Fellowship to David Ainsworth. Probus Christmas Lunch - done - this made both Kay and I feel quite youthful. Radcliffe Round Table Charter - done. Bury Charter Nights - 2 down, 3 to go. Radcliffe Senior Citizens Christmas Party - done - another splendid affair. Many thanks to Mr Music (Tony Leach) for masterminding the whole event; to the Mayor and Mayoress for their attendance, to those ladies from Inner Wheel, and to all Rotary Members who were able to help with sponsorship and help on the day.

We may have struggled to sell tickets for our Jazz Night, but no such problems for this event, they were queuing at 8.30am outside 'Smile' Photo Centre, and by 11.00am every available ticket was gone. We're already two thirds of the way through sleigh collections - well done everybody - keep going, we're nearly there. Thanks as always to Peter (Cooke). Gerry, Tom, and Peter Sillett) for all they do each year to ensure smooth running of this project which is now our major source of fund raising. Thanks to David and Beryl for offering to hold the 'lost night" party - we're all looking forward to that!
We had a Vocational visit to the Police Museum in September and the International Committee met in November! - Yes Sir. we're on a roll. Rotary is FUN. and the fellowship? as good as ever.
Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes from Me (and Kay of course) for a happy and prosperous New Year
President Mike.
